Norman Dean Carr was born on November 2, 1947, in Norfolk, Virginia, to the late
Lewis D. Carr and Edna I. Carr. He was the second of five sons, preceded in death by
his brothers, Elbert and Stewart.
Norman spent his childhood in Young’s Park and later moved with his family to
Chesterfield Heights. He cherished his early years, especially his lifelong friendship with
his best friend, Steve, with whom he remained as close as a brother for over 60 years.
A graduate of Maury High School, Norman went on to enlist in the U.S. Air Force.
Shortly after his enlistment, he married Lynda Jones, with whom he had three children:
Ronson (Lenora), Bryce, and Tynisha (Arthur).
Norman had a passion for sports, excelling in volleyball, basketball, and baseball. He
was also an avid cyclist and found great joy in dancing. There wasn’t a two-step he
couldn’t master. He worked for many years at the Shipyard and later for the Department
of Defense at the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) until his retirement,
where he met the love of his life, Joyce.
Norman and Joyce were deeply devoted to one another, and he cherished her until his
passing. He was a proud husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, taking
immense pride in his family.
Norman is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce Carr, and his children: Ronson, Bryce,
Tynisha, Dexter, Michelle, and Renee. He also leaves behind two brothers, Lewis and
Sidney Carr. Additionally, Norman is survived by his grandchildren: Tiera, Kyerra, Erin,
Ronson Jr., Bryce Jr., Brandon R., Britton, Brittany, Taylor, and Brandon C.; and his
great-grandchildren: Arreyk, Aubri, Zya, Ali, and Kamden. Norman will be deeply missed
by a host of family and friends.
To the Carr family. My prayers are with all of you during this time of sadness. I pray that God comforts your heart. With love from Dr. Sharon Cason
To My Cousins:
I extend my deepest and heartfelt condolences. Norman’s legacy will live on through his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. May you find strength in his memory and the love that he had for you.

Norman is family to me as well since him and my dad have been best friends since childhood. They were like brothers. If you saw Norman you saw Steve and vice versa. So although this loss deeply saddens me, I take solace in the fact that they are now reunited in Heaven, pain free, probably cutting up, and at peace.
To Mrs. Joyce, Tynesha, Travis, Bryce and the entire family, I send my condolences and pray for your strength.

Norman, always pleasant with a smile. We enjoyed his company and he and his brother Lewis enjoyed talking on the phone about old times and their days growing up. Though our hearts are sad, we know that God had another plan. We will miss him, but cherish the memories we shared. Laverne & Lewis
Norman was always such a nice man. He and Joyce were a wonderful couple. Tina Adams
