This note comes after the great service held today. I did not know Ike the first of his 20 years, nor the middle plus, but it has been my honor to know him and call him friend the last 20 years.
I first moved into the bells Mill area in 2003. I had only been on Aberdeen Lane a month or so when I first met Ike. I am a former Marine, and as such, Ike and I became fast friends (similar military backgrounds will do that to a soul). He was such a presence in the neighborhood. Always looking after everyone. And always ready to tell you a story about his beloved neighborhood and his beloved family and friends.
My mother came to visit me, during my first year here. Ike happened to greet her. She, now 93, always asked about him. And he always asked me about how she was doing. As a matter of fact, the last thing Ike asked me about, was how my mom was doing. That is how Ike was. Even if at times, it seemed his demeaner was hard, he could not hide his heart.
My dog Salo (2003-2018), knew Ike all his life. Ike was always his best friend.
Its not often you live somewhere, where you come home and a kind soul has taken the time to return your trash bins to the side of the house. Might seem a trival thing, but it is a testament to the heart of a man, to do such things. Not for gratitude, but just because that is what neighbors do.
In the testimonianls blessed today, Ike in his own way, gave me the opportunity to witness the deep love for God, family, country and neighbor, that I grew to know was the esscense of my friend.
I will miss my friend.
