Frank Columbia Thorne, III, our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend

transitioned home to heaven on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at the age of 72 years old.

He was born in Portsmouth, VA., on September 20, 1951, the son of Nana “Ruth” Suggs Thorneand Frank C. Thorne, Jr. He was educated in Portsmouth Public Schools, and went on to pursue acareer in Residential Plastering. He later obtained employment at Wayne Jones Florist on CountyStreet, where he proudly held his position from 2017 until the business closed entirely in 2021.

Frank was known around town for always riding his bike wherever he would go until his health started deteriorating. Frank loved life to the fullest. The love he shared for his family and his unwavering and irreplaceable love for his daughter, Tara, was known by all of those that he came in contact with. He also shared a special bond with his brothers, Nathan and Este, and his niece, Tracy, who guided and supported him through some of his darkest days. The family is appreciative to anyone who may have assisted in any way to bring comfort and support during trying times.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents – Nina Ruth Suggs Thorne and Frank C. Thorne, Jr., his sisters – Dorethea “Doe” Turner and Nina Ruth Thorne & brother – Jesse Thorne.Frankwill live on in the hearts of the ones he has left behind and many memories to cherish – his one and only daughter – Tara Torrence; his sons – Maurice Copeland, Alton Boone, and Frank C. Thorne, IV; ten grandchildren, two brothers – Este Thorne and Nathan Thorne, and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nephews, great-nieces, cousins, and friends.
